Moving Voices – special guest

We’re thrilled that you’re considering joining us as a special guest at Moving Voices, our beloved poetry and spoken word night.

This is your chance to share your talent, try new material, cut your teeth on a longer performance set, connect with our vibrant community, and be part of an event that champions creativity, diversity, and radical change.

Who we are looking for

We invite people who have been to Moving Voices before to step forward as potential special guests. The event has a unique feel and vibe, so we only feature performers who have been the event and done an open mic slot before.

To select our guests, we will be looking to ensure a variety of representation over the year.

Here’s everything you need to know about being a special guest:

What We’ll Need From You at this stage

Bio and links: Please send us a short (roughly 50-100 word) bio and links to your social media and (if you have one) website. If you perform under a different name, let us know that too. Not sure how to write your bio? Check out our helpful blog post here or reach out for advice.

Pronouns: Please let us know your pronouns so we can address you correctly.

What We Offer

  • Tickets & Guest List: Your ticket is covered, and you’re welcome to bring one guest—just let us know for numbers.
  • Travel Expenses: We’ll cover travel costs (including parking) up to £25. Bring your receipt on the night to be reimbursed in cash, or email it to accounts@thearthousesouthampton.co.uk along with your payment details. If you need travel costs paid in advance, let us know — we can arrange it.
  • Performance Guidelines: Most guest slots are 20-25 minutes, though this can be tailored to fit your material. We aim to create a safe, inclusive space for all performers and audiences. Please review our content guidelines lower down to ensure we keep the night welcoming and respectful.

Filming & Photography

The event may be photographed, live-streamed, or recorded for promotional purposes. If you’d prefer not to be filmed or photographed, please let us know in advance. We’re also happy to share any recordings or photos with you for your use.

Why Moving Voices?

Bunker178 are committed to fostering creativity and amplifying diverse perspectives. Our events are proudly pro-queer, pro-black, pro-sex-worker, anti-state-violence, and anti-oppression. We welcome radical voices and encourage performers to push boundaries — always with an awareness of our shared values of respect and inclusivity.

If you’re ready to step into the spotlight, we’d love to have you as part of Moving Voices.
