Introducing Bunker178 Events – the next evolution of this project!

Bunker178, post apocalyptic performance pop up – a safe haven in these times, popping up with events, performances, happenings and a community pantry. Happy 1st March!

As we move into our last month at our current home, we wanted to update you on the next stage of our story.

It’s still evolving, but we have a clearer idea now of what is next. We hope that you’ll feel able to support us, book tickets and come along as we take this slightly daunting step out of our home of 15 years!

Our future plans take two forms:

The Art House pop-up pantry, which will happen weekly at Board in the City CIC and monthly at October Books, as well as appearing at other events and spaces through the year.

Bunker178 events. Keeping the name of our lovingly created performance space, and keeping the vibe, crew and everything else that makes our space unique. These events will be popping up in likeminded spaces from April, we’ve had lovely connections and chat and are SO grateful for the chance to bring what we do into new places.

The Art House Southampton CIC will continue trading under this name for the forseeable future, with the same legal structure and management team. Yes, we are all still speaking to each other – must be something in the cake!

Aside from being in different spaces, a few other things might change. We are upping our commitment to providing as safe and inclusive an experience as possible and our events will, mostly, not feature alcohol sales. Instead, we will have affordably priced non-alcoholic drinks, zero-alcohol beers, wines, ciders etc and hot drinks for sale. You will be able to bring your own, small amount, but the focus will be on keeping the spaces as sober as possible.

We will be working with some venues that do sell alcohol, but we ourselves will not be running boozy bars.

With the changes, we have had a chance to review our practices and are working to bring even more accessibility, especially since we recognise that moving from the space many know and love will be unsettling for many. Look out for detailed descriptions and updates on the places we’ll be, our accessibility box and we’re learning all the time.

You can support our plans by – looking at our Silent Auction to see if there’s anything you want, booking for one of the gigs below, joining our Patreon community or contributing to our wishlist. Now for the programme!

The Travelling Talesman presents: Honey Paws, Shaggy Coats & Brown Ones
Tales of the ones we do not name
Words have power. In the heart of Northern Europe’s Bronze-Age era, hunters cherished the belief that, by uttering a bear’s true name, the creature would comprehend and respond, a testament to their deep connection with nature.

The true name of the bear, a formidable presence in the sprawling Germanic forest, meaning ‘dangerous’ or ‘destroyer’, has been lost to memory. Seeking harmony with this majestic creature, our ancestors chose to revere it through terms like ‘Honey Paw’, ‘Shaggy Coat’, ‘Brown One’, and ‘Honey Eater’.

The Travelling Talesman brings us tales from these times and from all over the world – he will bravely use the word ‘bear’ as he shares these stories with us.
