Special Guest Announcement: Moving Voices Feb ’24

On Friday 23 Feb 2024 we are delighted to host our second to last Moving Voices at our Above Bar Street location.

Our special guests will be Carrie Myshkin and Andrew Butcher.

Andrew Butcher is a Writer, Performer, and Puppeteer from the wilds of the Isle of Wight.

In July ‘23 he debuted‘Fake It Till You break It!’; a semi-autobiographical solo show about mental health and personality masking, at Ventnor Fringe Festival. Now he’s back for more with an early work in progress section of his brand new spoken word show: ‘Crazy Tomato Boy’!

Expect traditional poetic turmoil, ‘rap’ dressed in big words and a waistcoat, and the odd identity crisis (or five…), as we transition through eras and alter egos to answer the age old question:

‘What are tomatoes, really?’ — Plato, Ancient Greek Philosopher.

Carrie Myshkin is a poet who sometimes sings their poems. She has a guitar & it has a strap covered in flourescent arcane symbols. Their music has been described as “somehow celestial
velvety, adept and deft whimsy charmingly so”.

Make of that what you will.

When she isn’t listening to contemporary classical/ambient music, she has been known to listen to Cardiacs, Coil, Current 93, Mount Eerie, Slowdive, & things like that, but the question of what her influences are would probably be best answered by armfuls of books & an hour on an analyst’s couch. What are anyone’s influences? These are questionable questions… They like music for its propensity to be a phenomenological box to be in (is the first – and most concrete – sentence that comes to mind). She has been doing poetry at The Art House for over a decade & is really looking forward to giving it a good sendoff in the second to last Moving Voices at Above Bar.
